High School English Tuition Tailored to Your Child

Lynn’s Learning Secondary School English Tuition programs are a fun way to keep your child engaged while preparing them for VCE and higher education.

Starting High School English

The transition from primary school to high school can be a difficult one both socially and academically. While students are trying to settle into their new social circles, children are also lumped with a lot more school work – and school work that moves at a much faster pace than in primary school. This can often be overwhelming for children.

The Difference Between Primary & Secondary English

There are a couple of key differences between primary and secondary English. One of these is the pace in which classrooms move – with secondary school teachers expecting and teaching at a much faster pace than primary school teachers. The other main difference is the type of English assessments given.

In primary school, children will be given more basic English assessments – maybe some comprehension or cloze exercises, spelling and grammar tests, and other specific tasks. In secondary school, the emphasis shifts from this type of assessment to more written tests – creative writing, essays and argumentative writing are just three examples of secondary school English assessments that all involve children to understand how to structure and write different formats of essays.

Essay Structure – Imperative to High School English

Our High School English programs offer English practice, help and advancement to children from Year 7 to Year 10 to help your child develop the core competencies of the English curriculum including language, literature and literacy.

While we focus on all areas of the Australian English Curriculum, we have a very key focus on essay writing. This includes teaching correct essay structure, brainstorming for essays, and how to plan and write different types of essays. We also teach time management for essay writing as assessments in the later years are often timed.

Getting Started with Lynn’s Learning

We begin by assessing your child’s strengths and any trouble areas to create an English program individually tailored to their needs. This assessment is 100% FREE and is offered by all Lynn’s Learning centres nationally. Once the assessment is complete, our English tutors will discuss the results and discuss a program that will be tailored to suit the outcomes from the assessment.
