How can tutoring help my child?

by Ken Tam / Tuesday, 23 May 2023 / Published in Uncategorized

Whether your child is struggling or already excelling at school, extra tuition can help your child in different ways to get the results desired. Tutoring can help strengthen subject comprehension, boost confidence and build important learning skills. In a typical classroom, teachers cannot always give all their pupils the attention that they need. This is not necessarily the school or teacher’s fault, but rather the nature of school. The education programs at schools are standardised and for some children that may be enough. Others might find it too easy and some might need a different approach to make sense of certain concepts. Tutoring can help fill in those gaps for your child.

Increasing confidence

One of the main benefits of tutoring that can help your child is increasing their confidence. By increasing their confidence, you’re allowing your child to enjoy school more. If they’re able to understand what’s being said in class, they’ll no longer be afraid of a subject, making them less likely to avoid doing homework or listening in class. As confidence builds, children can often start excelling in the subjects that they were struggling in.

Reduce stress

If your child puts off projects and postpones homework, your child may not be able to keep up with the workload increase and this can lead to extra stress during exam period. Procrastination or a reluctance to do any more work can be a sign of a child struggling. Both can lead to increased stress during exam periods when they need to catch up with a semester’s worth of work and study exam tactics. Tutoring can help lift this stress as children get extra exposure and practice in subjects throughout the semester, even if they do procrastinate doing school work. When exam period rolls around they’ll have the confidence to prepare with ease.

Establishing a Foundation

Primary to High School are the building blocks for further education, it’s important children get the foundation they need to excel in later studies. School readiness is mostly about emotional maturity and at times children avoid subjects like mathematics because they struggle to understand it, not because they’re bad at it. As they grow and understand the importance of learning and put more effort into understanding a concept, they find that the subject they used to hate isn’t that bad after all. Extra tutoring centres can help your child understand this earlier and allow them to establish this foundation.

Learning Skills

Tuition centres can help improve work and study habits, most centres also include exam tips and tricks to help your child get their best score. School teachers are often so busy trying to cover all the exam material that sometimes they don’t get to help students improve their exam skills. It’s these skills that can improve your child’s C+ to a B. Your child can use these learnings in future education or even work, these skills will help prepare your child to successfully achieve their goals.

Decreasing parental supervision

The standards and expectations of both Primary and High School are much higher than they were decades ago. Children nowadays have an impressive afterschool schedule with sports games, swimming, music and dance lessons to choose from. Increased studies and busy family schedules can lead to inefficient time management, as children juggle between activities some subjects might get neglected (especially the ones they already dislike). This is where extra tuition can be a tremendous help for both the students and parents.

Some children can do well with a helpful teacher at school and an active parent at home. However, some parents feel unable to help their children with schoolwork and some find children are more receptive to working through school struggles with another person. There are always different reasons for seeking a tutor, the most important concern should be to help your child overcome their learning obstacles.
